What we’re for

By Beryl Wajsman on May 29, 2008

The Bouchard-Taylor Commission’s recommendations stated many things very well. They echoed much that was obvious and most of the conclusions exhibited a great deal of common sense. But even coming in some twenty per cent below budget, a commendable achievement for a government mandate, common sense was the least we should have expected...

La mémoire rétrécie

By Daniel Laprès on May 29, 2008

By Kheiriddin et Collacott on May 29, 2008

A new brown entry for the Yellow Door?

Sauvons notre langue !

By Pierre K. Malouf on May 29, 2008

By David Simard on May 29, 2008

Not yielding to the sum of all fears

By Kevin Mulvina on May 29, 2008

We live in strange times. In the forefront of conventional wisdom is the following notion: smokers are weak and dependent. Reality reveals however they may be the only ones in society not lead by the principles of fear. We looked at the risks and walked right through them...

International security, trade and governance

By The Hon. David Kilgour on May 29, 2008

According to a legend, in creating the world, God gave to Canada British Columbia, the Gulf Islands, the Rockies and many other natural wonders. Someone asked, "Why are so many good things going to Canadians?" God replied, "Wait till you see the neighbours I'm giving them." You'll recall the similar Mexican cri de coeur, "Oh Mexico! So far from God; so close to the United States!"..

Remembering Bobby

By John Parisella on May 29, 2008

He was not a great speaker and he occasionally stammered in public, yet he moved millions with his words. His record as Attorney General of the United States during the Kennedy Administration was considered mixed, yet he is remembered for his courage and his integrity...

La nouvelle prohibition

By Vincent Geloso on May 29, 2008

Mission’s Pearce looks to the future

By Isaak Olson on May 29, 2008

Maybe he lost his factory job of 20 years because the company took its business overseas. Maybe she’s addicted to gambling, alcohol or drugs. Maybe his wife was killed by a drunk driver and he never recovered from the loss. Maybe it’s a mental illness, a chronic sickness or just a lack of the right social tools that keep most of us on our feet in today’s fast paced world...

Will gentrification threaten Mile-End artists?

By Jessica Murphy on May 29, 2008

Mile-End is red-hot. But while the City has been vocal about protecting Mile End artists from the inevitable affects of the gentrification that follows them, it lacks any real plan to protect them...

Discussion isn’t dead

By Dan Delmar on May 29, 2008

It’s hard to find good conversation these days. Who has time to talk about important issues in our communities when we’re drained at the end of the day from working longer hours for less pay? Kids, bills, chores…and American Idol is on, too...

Le complexe d’Icare de Sébastian Maltais

By P.A. Sévigny on May 29, 2008
